I put the inflatable away Sunday. Today I dropped the 15 HP outboard at a marine dealer for winterization and impeller replacement. I used the old outboard for 3 seasons, figured it was due, especially after all those times I ran into skinny water on Monomoy.. As I am dropping off the motor, an old friend shows up. We talk for 10 minutes or so. The mechanic/technician calls my name. "You don't need a new impeller". He then shows me the piece and explains the lack of signs of wear. Mind you I was expecting to pick up the motor in 3+ days. This guy is jumping right on it at 3:30 in the afternoon! While this young gentleman is giving me the discourse on marine engines, I am wondering how many dealers would simply replace the impeller, whether required or not? I am not going to disclose the name of this dealer unless asked. Small shop in Dartmouth, MA. As good as they are in engine work, their forte may be trailer repair.
