I'm looking for some practical recommendations for prop guards on an O/B of 115 HP. Not too concerned about losing some performance, but am concerned about losing a prop or lower unit. Any good experience with prop guards out there?

I don't know the name of the device, I saw it at Inflatable Experts in Portsmouth/Middletown, RI. It is a skeg guard combined with a foil. The ower of the shop told me a story of an inflatable with a 70 HP Merc running up on a rocky beach at speed with no damage to the motor.

It is called a Hydro Shield. Inflatable Xperts- 1-800-729-1498, $65, or $75 installed.

Have any of you had any experience with the prop guard shown at this site? I'm looking for something that will provide impact protection for a 115 HP O/B.

I was looking at the Cabelas skeg guard, but it seems to me that the 4 screws would take the skeg with it. Also, it doesn't seem as though it would provide any protection to the propeller. ;)

the screws are hollow they are desinged to shear off with impact not so much a prop gaurd but wiil save 2500$ lower unit props are cheap, at least on my hole in the water. I kayak most of the time now. puts me in tune with the water instead of just riding over it .:-%
