With this recent cold blast the ponds in the Metrowest area are starting to freeze. I was planning on making a run down to a cape pond or two this weekend. Since I don't plan on ice fishing, can anyone tell me if the ponds are starting to freeze over? Should I attach an ice breaker to my kayak?

The Cape and coastal area in general is the last part to get ice. Should be clear paddling :)
Tell me about this MetroWest ice. Any thickness to it?

Hard to say. I've only seen the ice from the car. However, I saw a guy with a large ice pick testing the Hopkinton Reservoir ice. I was driving by, but it looked like he was actually on the ice testing its thickness. He was at the parking area near the route 85 bridge.
