Here is one that is a bit different in concept.. the inside has a short series of white bucktail applications and flashabou...but the outside is all saddle hackles with a spreader that allows me to accomplish what I wanted..a Puglisi type fly but with hackle so that no nose threads are are incorporated on the outside... very light, transparent, and fish bullet shape. The hook gap is wrong as I had started out with the wrong hook.. Never liked seeing all the bulking nose threads and wanted to see the outside all hackle which I think will add to the action.

That's a beaut! How long is the fly and on what size hook? What a great bunker pattern...especially in peanut sizes!

Looks pretty good, however I wonder if fouling will be an issue?

Not with the epoxy where it's at..But we shall see...I tied it with that in mind as well. the hackles move sideways ...not up or down.

That's a great looking bug. I know some snook that would chow that in a heartbeat. One of my anglers put one in the boat over 20lbs last night. Unfortunately it was on spin, not on fly. His partner, the guy with the fly rod , just drooled...

What are you using for a spreader inside -- flexo, corsair, something like that? For that matter, would you mind posting the tying instructions. Looks like my kinda fly. Great job.

It's corsair.... ok... tie a clump of bucktail at the tail 360 degrees, then cover that with pearl flashabou..360....... move to the middle of the shank..tie in another clump, a bit bigger at that point and cover again with flashabou... then take good hackles two on each side at that middle pont ...one high and one low an each side...not on top of each other.... then put the corsair speader on...I had medium..don't remove the string since you want it somewhat flat.... secure in but leave 1/8 room at the hook eye... then take 6 white hackles ..3 on each side and use goop...CAREFULLY... a little spot is all you need.. and put one hackle low ,the other middle and one high...on each side...be sure that the end of the hackle at the base is touching the hook eye....you will have trimmed the hackle to get ride of the fluffy base, but the goop should only be on the high end of the spreader...this actually gives the head a transparent look thought the hackle..oh yes..you can also weight the fly with lead wire at the front before you put the spreader on. Let the goop set ..then take the top you want...it is not to go on the sides but as hight as you can over the top white hackle...use goop again... one this has set you can now take your epoxy...you will see the general shape of the head,,, the point is the gluing high on the spread gives the head shape... Use one coat of VERY light epoxy to lock the appearance in shape...moving right to left and be certain not to ruffle ti feather...put the eye on... than when set..put on your heaveier coat of epoxy, let set then cover with a light coat of hard as nails.... Here is a surf candy I just did and it is simpler than the deceiver, using polar fiber for the interior.Remember one of the objects is that NO wraps should be seen or done at the hook eye.. the hackle application takes care of this.
