Here is group of flies I recently tied which are based on Blados crease fly but differ in several respects. First ,they are flat and not hollow and are to act as sliders and not poppers. Second, they have a marabou tail and not the usual bucktail, Thirdly, they have a realistic fish head, and finally, I continue to tie my flies with the bodies of natural feathers to reflect color and visual texture. I have included the partridge feather as gills on each and grizzly hackle under the epoxy. The backdrop is an original Tony Stetzko watercolor.

Srtiblue, I tied one w/ a head shape like that this summer. I left the opening, it caused the fly to dive and dart.

Thanks Mike..Diving and Darting is what I am looking for also.... You should try a combo flatwing crease...longer body and shorter hackles... I bet you could come up with a neat pattern...push the envelop so to speak... Dick Brown just e-mailed me with comments on my Blue Crab... very helpful and I will be sending him some of them for a March Bahama trip he is planning.. I hope they work for him as they have for me with stripers.

Sure Josh..without quoting him he told me that the Blue crabs he has seen in the Bahamas are usually a single uniform color, and the carapaces form as they grow to maturity, the color vaies from whitish blue-green, to pale blue green.. all within the pale light blue green, almost mostly green.. He indicated that he had a Black and white photo on page 47 of his first book, and even though in B & W you can still detect the uniformity of color and an absence of pattern...so back to the drawing board for me on the blues before I send him any... . For him the weights will be at the hook eye to solicit a strike as they dive... whereas I would fish for stripers with them on the bottom. His test with my crab will be the acid test.

Bill Blados claims that his Crease fly is not a popper and that it is not intended to be fished so. It certainly can be given that type of retreive but it is not a popper.
