Here is a spearing pattern . It works well for sand eels also.

Hi Mike,
Great looking fly!

Is that copper flash in the wing or a touch of brown bucktail?

How did you get that nice vibrant Chartruese? My last Chart. dye job came out a bit dull...

Thanks for the help
Matt

ps - I really love your flies and will try to post a few imitations soon...or should I say tributes to you (and of course J Kenny Abrames)

Keep up the great work and all the incredible help you provide on this board and others - it does not go unnoticed or unappreciated!

Mike,
Show these folks a couple of your beautiful new salmon flies, and explain them. They are outstanding.

Have you tried dyeing with kool-aid? I haven't looked at the choices lately but they must have a flavor that is green. They usually have "electric" colors to make it attractive to the kids. The packets run about 5 or 6/$1. You need the kind without the sugar in it. 2-3 packs in an 8cup pyrex measuring cup in the microwave, boil and leave to cool. The longer it stays in the dye the deeper the color. Leave it long enough at a simmer and all the color will leave the water for your fur or feather and it doesn't fade. The packet color is usually a good indicator of the color of the mix. For example, Strawberry Kiwi is a bright pink with a hint of orange to it. If you're afraid to waste feathers, and I don't blame you, get some white 100% wool yarn and drop some in. Wetting your material first helps make the color consistant.l

Thanks for the compliments, guys. As far as dyeing colors, for chartruse , I used Bright yellow with a touch of highlander green added. These are veniard dye colors.Try one feather at a time till you get the color you want.
This fly has copper flash , 2 strips in the tail.
I have found that Veniard dyes are alot brighter than Rit or similar dyes. Just depends what you are looking to acheive.

Koolaid? Won't it run in the water when fished? Or does it really take a permanent set.?

No, it doesn't run. Ask the wife what it takes to get kool aid out of the kids' clothes :)

Matt, upon reading your question about the wing again, I used orange bucktail in the cheek. I hope that answers the question .
