This is what I made in response to pushing more water with a flatwing, Abrame's Eelpunt with a purple spun deer head. This fly did very well with a palmered brown or black hackle body but I think this may work even better in Moriches Bay.http://www.panix.com/~pg/eelpunt.jpg

Well tied and good length, it looks like it would be a good night fly and should push a lot of water. The Abrames flatwing style is indeed very adaptable, leaving much room for personal adaptation. One question: with the fly shown, do tou think the spun head will close the hook gape enough to miss some hook-ups?

I hope not. The hook is a 3/0 so there is more of a gap than it looks. If I had a 4/0, I'd use it. I'll only know when I get it wet.
mgustav- That's exactly the way I tie mine but without the colors only 'causse I didn't have any purple deer body hair. i doubt you'll have a problem with the gape being too small the head will crush down if a large hits it anyway. Great job. Ron
