Considering buying a boat in the 18-20' range for saltwater fishing. I live on the South Shore so for fishing primarily these areas: Boston harbour, Plymouth & Duxbury Bay, North/South River, Brant Rock, maybe Cape Cod on the right days like Mashpee, Vinyard, Woods Hole, etc.

Understand there are advantages to each boat. Lund is like a "pick-up truck". Very functional. Easy maintainance. Can beach it w/out worrying about scratching up the gel coat too much. But, I don't like the looks of it. Also, does it pound too much?

I like the Maritime Skiff's, but concerned about some of the hull problems I've read abut here. Not sure if it's true or not but someone mentioned the hulls are contracted out??? It was nice to read that Paul stands by his product though. Also, they're a little more money than the Lunds, right?

Looking for some advice from RT'ers.

Thanks in advance.

The 16' lund that I had was a skiff with a flat bottom, thus it did pound. The alaskan and some of the new models have more of a V thus pound less. I've seen alaskans' travel to all the places you have mentioned. I've seen maritime skiffs travel to those places as well. tough decision, the lund will be lighter if you trailor alot, but the lack of weight will be a negative factor on windy days.

NO COMPARISON!!! Maritimes are by far a better boat.
Here are some reasons: More room, drier ride, you don't have to sit down all the time, you won't pop a rivet, you can't swamp and sink the boat, 10x more seaworthy. There is alot that goes into the design of a hull, and Paul the owner of Maritime has been designing hulls for many years,(came from Boston Whaler) These hulls are extremely dry, solid, and seaworthy. Do yourself a favor and take both of these boats for a ride, say across Vineyard Sound in a 3ft chop blowing 10-20knots or in your case from Bug Light to Scituate when it's blowing NE 15knots, and you will agree that there is no comparison!

Maritime Skiffs probably ride better than lund but quality ???? Also look at boats like Sea Hunt which would appear to be a much better value tha Maritime. Certainly the fit and finish is superior.
