It's got plenty of room and is a Varivas wide gap. Hook gaps are my first concern on tying these.

Those are now my #1 hooks, I use them in almost all my flies, will be getting MORE at the Wilmington show. Used them last season, have no complaints . Excellent choice. See ya!

that's good to hear. i don't know how it works around here (not originally from ma), but back on LI, stripers used to chase small fluke all the time (as did the bluefish). i know a few places around onset/buttermilk bay/wings neck that i like to throw something like that. the only thing is this area doesn't seem infested with rat 6" fluke that seem to cover the bottom of the bays along western LI (the end closer to nyc). it's kind of like the opposite of how i see cod fishing up here-they're way more plentiful, but you get all those little 5 lb'ers (or smaller). down there, you'll almost never get 30 fish days like i've had up here, but there's always a good 25-30lb'er to win the pool. i haven't been codfishing in years, however, and that may have changed.

As you know I still have some concerns about the Epoxy application... I need to keep these small since they have not yet been field tested. Bob Pink and I have been wondering about a "side" mouth hookup. the bottom or roof of the mouth hook up is not a concern but I am about the side or mouth joint hook up with a hard flat fly. The colors and shape will stay the same but I will look at the possibility of a more collapsable fly.

What about using a modified Mushmouth?

Good Idea.. except it really would not be my own... I think that would change the fly significantly and I would lose the body appearance I am looking for. The movement in the fly is basically the rabbit strip tail and the overhanging fins.
