I will be in the Key West next Sept. 3rd and am looking to book a guide for a day. Any suggestions? I am from Rhode Island and have never fished Florida.

Try Capt. Jeff Burns 305/745-4199. He was in the special forces with my brother, and fishes both flats and offshore. He's really good, I fished with him in August (a bad time) and he put me into fish all morning.

Simon Becker is an excellent light-tackle guide with long experience fishing Key West waters.

Most of the guides supply the rods & flies. If you're only going for the one day I would go that route and make sure they do. Your flyline probably isn't suitable for hot water and the guide will have all the "right" flies. Saves trying to pack everything. You also get the advantage of possibly trying a different brand of fly rod, reel, and line than you own. I fished with 3 different guides in the Keys and got to use about 7 different rods and 4 different lines....helped make my decision when I came home.

I've fished the Lower Keys several times and if he's available I would highly recommend Capt. Vern Robey (305) 745-1644, he is a short drive north of Key West. He is one of the top guides in the lower keys and will put you on fish.
