Years of fiscal irresponsibility have forced our new Governor to make some hard choices...
Persoanlly, I support Mr. Romney, and certainly think he derserves a chance, since he inherited a mess.
The elimination of "MDC" is one of them. Surely there was beaucoup fat here. But, what will this mean for The Quabbin (and Wachusett)?
I've been reading about the possibilities on some other boards, and they aren't pleasant.
Odd/even usage days. some days closed all together.

Personally, I never fish here. But, I'd hate to see access restricted to this beautiful place in any way.

Has anyone heard anything? even if it's scuttlebutt?

Bob,

I heard that the most likely new steward of the Quabbin, etc, will be the MWRA. Kind of makes sense, but, then again, they know nothing about recreation. This will be very interesting to watch.

MWRA, eh? Well they did a fairly nice job turning much of Deer Island that isn't sewage treatment into a town recreational area, but that's a whole different animal from managing a vast tract of virgin forest and water.

I'm afraid no matter who takes over Quabbin and Wachusett, staff will be cut way back in the short term which suggests limited open hours. Plenty of people I know won't be prevented from fishing by closures, especially at Wachusett, so they've got their work cut out for them.

i agree as far as the necessary cuts. it doesn't mean i am happy about it though. i hope it doesn't affect when you can fish the swift. i doubt it will. actually in all my days on that river, i have only seen a ranger two times.

what does concern me though is that they will no longer use fishing and hunting licenses for conservation and management. they are using that money in more general funds to attack the red ink.
