Ice Clave III is in the works for this weekend atWallum Lake (MAWildlife Site) (http://www.state.ma.us/dfwele/dfw/Dfw_pond/dfwwallu.pdf)
as we said before, this lake sits on the border between RI and MA so both states can fish legally. RI regs apply. As always, all are invited!
The plan is to meet Saturday at the Northern boat ramp on the MA side at 7am and go from there. The access is a State park off Wallum Lake Rd in Douglas MA. No open fires but grills are allowed.

So Far,

If anyone wants to give it a try I have 4 extra tipups...
Now the dirty work...who is bringing what?
What do we want for food...the ususal?

I got my sausage patties. With bulkie rolls.

I should get some chicken/turkey sausages for Sam since Kasia enjoyed his

I'll bring some lighter fuel incase your briquets are stubborn.

Will not have propane stuff since that is stored on the cape.

But I will plan to come. Probably have my 3 and 4 yo, so may not be there too long. I have a propane grill and tank that we could use.

Plan on swinging by my place at the end of the day for (more)drinks. (Just off Rt. 146).

Mark

The shop in Manchaug shut down in August. Where can I get some shiners or can someone bring a few extras?

IC III started with Sam the only two at the ramp shortly after 7am. Can you say C O L D !!

We crossed over to what appeared to be a promising cove and set up camp. First hold 55' last hole in up in cove 12'. some rigs deep a couple shallow (hoping for salmon). An early flag produced a lost shiner and hook. Just as Bill arrived a flag goes off in deep water. Turns out to be a very nice pickeral. Sam and I had forgetten our cameras and knowledge of Bill's camera came 2 seconds two late. Later that same hole produced a nice brown trout. If nothing else we ate well. Grilled sausages, sausages patties, I 'll leave the further details to others to gloat about. First time I've seen the dog really cold. She is totally zonked out now. :D

It WAS cold out there. The "Manly Men" of Reel-Time stuck it out, though. Pictured here, left to right: Mark Cahill, Bob Parsons, RIBill. Not pictured: Sam Riley, tending tilts, R'Man, taking pic.

I think you guys have redefined hard core. How thick was the ice there? Lemme guess, 18 inches?

WOW!!

You guys really are hard core. What a day to be on the ice. I waved at Wallum Lake both times I went across the Mass Pike. It was warm in the car but I didn't catch any troutcicles.

Did anyone try Mark Sedotti's shooting head methods to reach fish in another cove?

Keep up the good work!

Jack

Paul - that last shot is fantastic :)
So it sounds like I left a little bit of the stink behind though ;)

Great day on the water guys... when are we doing it again?

Really enjoyed it. A little cold when the sun started to go down, but well worth the trip.

Nice to have y'all in my backyard for a change...

Cheers,

Mark

sorry... no pics of Paul or Mark. As mentioned, Bob had a very nice pickerel that was camera-shy... thing looked like a pike-wannabe. Chow was great, as was the company. my guess was that the temps (without windchill) topped out at maybe 15*. hard to believe that you can be out on the ice all day in those temps and still enjoy yourself. last shot, like Paul's, was inspired by the rising moon...

bd,

Ice was about 18 inches, I'd guess. Good guess. I think Sam measured it, he'll know for sure. About 8 inches of snow over that. With the weekend storm, there must be close to 30 inches of snow out there (before the big meltdown coming).
