North River/Marshfield/Shad

Can anyone recommend some put in points on the North River? I've never explored it before. My maps and aerials indicate some kind of parking area by the bridge on Union St.
Thinking about looking for shad, which I've also never done before. Is further up the river better for shad? Or would I even be in the right river?!
Any pointers would be great.

Bill Downing would be a good guy to ask about Shad. Try posting in the NE forum. Can't help you with put-ins but do stay clear of the mouth. Very rough
