Hi guys - looking for some information on fishing in Florida this time of year. Would like to get some feedback from the folks on this board as to spots that would be hot, recommendations on guides and also spots to stay. Bringing my two sons down with me, and would like to get them either red fish, Tarpon of Snook - or all of the above if it is possible. (Or as Mark Cahill has pointed out - there may be some Striper down that way)

Was hoping to head south either March or April timeframe, as wife has blessed a couple of trips - going to wait until August/September for a Salmon/Steelhead trip to WA state.

Thanks in advance for your help!

There are endless possibilities in FL during the March/April time frame and just about anywhere you go should provide you with good fishing. I'd suggest you narrow down your choices to one of the following: FL Keys....Flamingo....10,000 Islands....Pine Island Sound. Once you decide on a specific area, I'm sure we can come up with some recommendations for guides and places to stay. Also, it might help to specify your kids ages and experience level and whether they will be flyfishing or using light tackle. Tight Lines....

Steve,

As far as the kids ages - 14 and 18. The youngest has tried fly fishing but really hasn't become proficient at it. The oldest hasn't even had the patience to try it. I would like to consider them spin fishing for now, but I am definitely a die hard guy with a fly rod in hand. If opportunties are right, and the fish are really on - then I might want to get a fly rod in the youngest hands where he won't get frustrated if he can't get some distance. Getting him hooked up a fly rod is what I'm looking for to really start getting in to fly fishing.

As far as areas to fish - I was kind of looking to the natives for the best areas to fish for this time of year. I'd like to target Tarpon, Snook, Jack or all of the above - if possible. Looking for an easy drive from either flying in to Orlando or Melbourne.

Thanks.

From Melbourne, your best bet for an easy drive would probably be Mosquito Lagoon. I've never fished there so I can't help with recommendations, but it is a top notch fishery for redfish & trout, and you'll do well there with both a flyrod and spinning gear. Probably some snook and tarpon mixed in as well. Search the Internet for info, or perhaps someone else here on the Forum can help with specifics. Good luck!
