I was starting to feel bad about all the abuse that Riley has to endure. But, then, breaking wind, I felt better.

All seriousness aside, are we too hard on Smilin Sam Riley? Will he ever shake the skunkskin? What must he do to appease us? What fishing feat must he accomplish in the coming season to stop the noise?

I do know this: if he persists in eating bait, he's a hopeless social misfit no matter what.

Bill,

Don't tell Sam, but I found a great stuffed skunk that looks so real.

I'm going to sneak it into his tent when he's sleeping. Should make for a great wake up call!!!

Hey guys... if the stink fits :D

First off, here is a little background on my sorry status as RT's SkunkMaster. It all began a few winters ago when our very own riBill and I decided to meet for the first time. Bill as host showed me what a great day of winter fishing on the Providence River was all about... emphasis on show.
Bill-2, Sam-zilch

Then rockfisherman, another hospitable Rhode Islander, offered up a night of Worm Hatch fishing. You can read the sad story here (http://www.reel-time.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=26937).
Paul-zilch, Sam-zilch

Figuring that two was better than one, Bill and Paul decided to make it a team effort and see if they could get me into fish on the Narrow River (http://www.reel-time.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=26716)
Bill-3, Paul-zilch, Sam-zilch

Brave souls that they are, Bill and Paul invited me down for a little mid summer night fishing. This was the night that rumors first surfaced of my being a jinx. Hours of trolling and casting yielded nary a bump for the group but as soon as Sam leaves the state...
Bill-4 cows, Paul-2 cows, Sam-zilch

Realizing that this sorry soul was more of a project than two Rhode Islanders could handle, they sought the assistance of Ray and RJ. The plan was to drag me the Massachusetts fishing equivalent of Mecca... Martha's Vineyard in September. (http://www.reel-time.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28670) This was the trip where my true identity as SkunkMaster was realized.

To date... I have yet to catch a fish....

do you remember the day that we gave him one of our fish and told him to act like he was removing the hook, so that we could take a picture for his wife... sad, sad.

Come on now folks, lets take it easy on Sam.

Don't forget, he was our fearless leader through the maze of endless NO TRESPASSING signs on the Vineyard last year.

How can we forget that look of surprise on our faces when we were stopped in someones backyard with several signs stuck in the grill of his truck!!!

Ray, you're right...we shouldn't be too hard on Sam. So, in his honor, last night I sat down at the vise and created the "Sam Riley." Here it is, for the first time, anywhere:

AAAHHH HHAAA Skunk fly! Thats great. He probably will do pretty well with it, he did ACTUALLY catch a fish on a laminated paper fish fly that said "warning: I have a hook don;t eat me" on the side in big red letters...

Paul,
That fly looks like a largmouth bass killer.

Sam,
I too fell under the spell of the Roe Dylan wizards during a frozen worm NOT hatch and a serving of Dumplings.

They did however lift the spell for some great bluefish acton in late summer and fall run stripers.

You must have done something to really annoy them! You might start by not eating ALL the bait - and please don't develop a taste for flatwings!

Seriously, Jack has a point. You start jumping out of your kayak to chase my streamers and we are going to have words....:D

Sam,

Take the fly! That is a "little rhody road kill classic" first tied by K. Abrahams. Don't fish it! Perserve it. You could sell it in the future to put at least two of your childern to be through Brown U in Providence. Fish are only fish! But road kill flys are unique.

Should you get desperate, I can make up some C-4 depth charges you could utilize to put fish in the boat. The underwater fuse's are tricky, so, light it, drop it and paddle like hell! Fat Albert size charges are free, BFT charges will cost ya!

Nice effort, Paul! Take that to the master on the first Tueday night of the 2003 season and get it blessed! Full moon last night, Bill! It's nice to see it still has that effect in RI.

Actually the third picture is not of a seal. With the faded light it is easy to make that mistake in identification. The soecies you observed is actually a Brineus Noncatchitous. Common name, the Brine skunk.
