greay facility, but it's frigging grand central station with every yahoo from NH and Mass seemigly congregating there during peak summer days. i think it costs $5 or $10. it's a perfect ramp with docks, not too steep, deep water, all tides, etc, but the current does rip through there whren the tide's going out, and the lines, and general bedlam make for an unpleasent time IMO. there are better options although before sunrise is usually ok regardless of the day.

Touching Cloth -
You indiate "that there are options" to Cashman Park. Having experienced the zoo there, including the usual folks that cant launch a boat in less than an hour, could you elaborate?
I'm also curious about fishing upriver. When I was there last, you could walk across Jopa from boat to boat without getting your feet wet. Any info (without disclosing your secret holes of course)?
Thanks.

Touching Cloth may be referring to ramps like Rye, NH and Wells, Maine which offer quick access to great fishing waters and are less than an hour's drive from Newburyport.
Other ramps to consider to access the greater Newburyport area include the ramp in Ipswich, Kazmiera Marina in Haverhill and the State Park in Salisbury.
Residents of Rowley, Newbury and Amesbury have access to ramps in their respective towns as well.

I wasn't referring to any other ramps on the river, per se. I was just saying that, in the peak of summer, I don't find the fishing there to be good enough to justify the crowds and aggravation, and I just trailer to a different area. The ramp on the Annisquam river will put you about a 30 minute ride from the mouth of the Merrimack, which isn't bad. That's a decent ramp with a moderate-sized boat at mid tide. Not many crowds at that ramp.

Other options for Joppa are:
State Park at Salisbury Beach, right across from Joppa and less crowded.
Water St is good if you have a smaller boat; park there at the ramp on on a nearby sidestreet. Watch the tides though, you may f'd if you don't know the water. If you waded it before you got a boat and know the shallow flat situation: 2 hrs before and 2 hours after is a good bet.
The Zoo at Cashman's can suck indeed.

Hi,
Cashman Park in Newburyport has an excellant boat launching ramp. It is wide allowing for boats to go in and come out at the same time. During the season it is busy! If you choose to use it, be prepared! I mean check your boat before launching. Know that the engine will start and run. Don't expect to be able to try everything after the boat is in the water at the launch site. You will experience lots of animosity from others anxious to launch or retrieve their boats.
traet evryone with respect because, just like you they want to enjoy a day on the water.

I did a drive by today, 4/19/09. The docks are in but a barge was tied up to the pump out dock an the ramp was closed with a crane and pilings blocking access to the ramp.

Went by today, 5/22/09 and there was probably 20 car/trailers that were parked (boats already "out") and only one launching and one in the cue. Not bad for mid-day, memorial day weekend. $5 per launch or $75 for the season.
