great ramp with docks, deep etc. raging current on outgoing and submerged boulder directly between the ramp and the channel are drawbacks. boulder is only concealed at high tide, but it'd be a serious problem if you hit it. you have to head up river about 50 yards, and then out into the channel.

In addition to the above post, there is drop box at the ramp for a launching fee, $5 last season. Smaller craft, yaks, jet skis can launch from a smaller free ramp on Gooseberry Island. To get to this ramp follow Rt. 88 to the end and turn right.

Good ramp. Lots of current at times but not really a problem. The state totally rebuilt this ramp 2-3 years ago. Good docks, cement ramps, lights at night, good fishing in the river and outside the river, but parking is limited. Very busy during good fishing season and hot summer days. Can launch two boats at a time but general area around the dock is limited. I use this ramp more than any but you need lots of patience sometimes. Great fishing "in the river". No parking without a trailer (yes you will get a ticket) and no wake for 1+ miles out to the ocean.

Quicksilver is correct about Goosebury Island. Small boat only. Ramp doesn't open until 7:00 AM (approx) and closes around dark. Free. Good access to "Hens & Chickens" or Allens Pond area on a calm day with a small boat.

I use the Gooseberry ramp often, but all should be warned, it is #1 on my "Ramp from Hell" list.
