great ramp. gets you into good fishing less than 5 minutes away on the airport flats, and around deer isle. very little current, dual ramps, lots of parkng and lots of water. fishing dies down pretty early in the morning, and getting out of winthrop during peak travel times really sucks. no fee

From another board (current information)........

Also as usual the RHS of the Winthrop boat ramp is silted up, but be careful because the Left Hand Side has a submerged car that is visible and almost out of the water at low tide. It was just about a foot under as I was backing down and fortunately someone came over and told me about it before I backed the trailer and boat into it. If you go at mid to high tide you should be able to clear it, we had no problem after letting the tide run in a bit. I told a winthrop police officer who said that they called the coast guard but only got an answering machine and that marine fisheries says it isn't their problem so they're not sure when its going to get out. Sounds like everyone is leaving it to everyone else. Anyway be careful until its gone, and wait for the right tide.

You know I wonder if it is feasable for us Winthrop ramp users to put together a work party to clean out the sand on the right hand side. Then dump some gravel and cement in those holes. Hopefully, would last the summer.

Of course probably requires a wetlands permit to do it. I know the state is not going to take care of it. I suppose if were "caught" they would just make us put the sand back.(you know to restore the wetland) I figure it needs about 5 guys with shovels, 100 pounds of gravel and 100 pounds of cement.

If you are thinking of organizing this some weekend, count me in. Send me an email and I will be there. I really havn't seen the extent of the sand buildup over winter but as of December it was manageable.

I didn't know about the submerged car though?? If the tires are still on it I doubt it would take more than some chains and a decent size truck to pull it out assuming you could line it up with the ramp...

Of course, assuming we could do it what do we do with the vehicle, just tow it over and park it ? I am guessing it wil be pretty hard to pull out at this point. The mud and sand would have quite a suction and it is full of water and sand meaning it it going to weigh a lot until that water starts to drain out.

I am surprised they would leave it in there assuming a gas tank and oil, this would create the potential for a spill.

Is there a place to tie up a 19' boat near this ramp? Id like to launch my boat by myself (in off-peak hours) so ill have to tie up and run over to my car on the ramp.

There's marsh on both sides of the ramp. Bring some type of pole to jam into the sand/mud bottom.
