O.K.... who has been on the water this season. Freshwater is being stocked and the salt has finally calmed down after a rough winter. I know that I'll be fishing this weekend... anyone else?

Been out a couple times. Plan to go back to Hudson Sunday. Hoping to see some better fish starting to move thru.

RJ, if you're in the neighborhood, I'm planning to fish the drop Sunday am around Croton.

Wes, I'm picking up my new (sunset color) Pungo 140 tomorrow in Kingston and trading in my Pamlico tandem for it in the AM. Life is good. Eat ya heart out Ray, Mine's prettier than yourns!

I'll not see you on Sunday! Spring cleaning stuff and re spotting the yak flight deck is scheduled this Sunday. My grandsons's Christing is on for next week end. and I head for Florida for 10 days on 4/16/ Back intime for the big striper push. Redfish tune up for striped bass is my version of spring training camp! Yes!!

Good luck, check the water temperature at Croton.

In May try up river (Croton River) some spawned out ladies liked to recoup in the upstream pools when I was a younker in the 50's. Blueback decievers would be my bet. I new an old timer in the 50s who used to catch them on tandem, gray ghost streamer flys.

Water temperature here in Athens today was 40 degrees!

I will be on the water during the week.

Hi Everybody,

I'm new to this forum so I thought I'd jump in. I've been out a few times (but I live in Florida so it's not as cold). Caught some cuda, donated some flies to some other cuda. Just started fly fishing from the yak this year.

Welcome Mike. Got any pics of your FL species? What do you paddle?

I just dialed in to this board because I've decided to shop for a kayak. At an EMS store last week, I looked over the Pungo and Pamlico, and I'll say I am tempted toward the tandem Pamlico, not least so that I can bring my 9 and 11 year old children with me on occasion.

So why are you trading "down" to the Pungo, is what I want to know?

I'm sure these basic questions about the relative merits of the leading brands and models have been covered on this board before, so someone just point me to a relevant archive if it's as easy as that.

I live on Cape Cod, the Bay side, and will do most of my paddling/fishing near-shore off and in the northside creeks and around Barnstable Harbor.

Hey Sam,

I paddle an Ocean Kayak Drifter (sit on top). I have it rigged very low tech at the moment: I tie my fly rod to the eyelets on the side and run with it across my lap. I'm looking at various rod holder options at the moment.

I have pictures of barracuda, ladyfish and peacock bass. The peacocks and ladyfish are too small; the cuda is alright. I'll get them up on my website soon.

I paddle a Old Town Loon and occasionally a Pungo. Hunt and fish out of the kayak. Bought a boat over the winter which I will keep in Winthrop but still plan to use the yak to explore and fish the backwaters of MA.

Was out last Saturday on MV and picked up a few holdovers in one of the great ponds on the southside. It felt great to have a tug on the end of the line!

Did you catch them on a fly rod?

Mike,

Me? I caught them on fly. Since I got into fly fishing (about 7 months ago) my spinning rods seem to be collecting a lot of dust. I did move them the other day though....:D

I've also started a little collection of fly rods (much to my wife's dismay). Must have more.......;)

Yup, obtain more stuff! Must always have the right equipment for the various conditions. Of course one day I might have it all (yeah, right) and then I won't have any more excuses for not catching fish! :D
