Does anyone out there have the original RAM Rod Holders?
I'm looking for:
-Opinions on durability and functionality
-Learning how low to the deck they can get
-Finding out what types and sizes of rods they can hold.

Many thanks,
Sam

Sam,

ram-mount.com will get you the home page. When the left side column pops up you to fishing rod holders. The original Ram Mount rod holer is their Mdl 117.

There are two dealers in MA. hopefully in the Boston area.

If you do go this way the base mount I recomment for the yak is the RAm-B-202 Circle bas 2.5" in dia. with a 1" ball to mount the double socket system to the base and the rod holder.

An inquiry direct to RAM Mount on prices from my e-mail site had three or four different internet sales companies contacting me over the next few days, when I ordered my fishfinder base mount. They were surprizingly competitive - price wise!

See ya on the Cape!

PS here is the staff e-mail address for National Products Inc. in Seattle, WA. staff@ram-mount.com NPI is the parent company for ram mount!

Sam They work well with spinning rods and fly reels.
Why do you want to know how close to the deck they can go ?I set mine up so they are a easy reach to get to.I mean you dont have to turn much to get them.Mine are mounted behind me.They can be adjusted about a gazillion ways depending on where they are mounted.I was impressed enough to run them on both of my yaks. They are made of metal so they are quite durable. With the infinate adjustment you can mount them anywhere.Vertical horizontel or on a angle.

Joe,
I had this idea that I could tilt the rod holder arm all the way down so that I could lay the rod down almost flat and in line with the yak. I'd keep them in this position while launching, landing and going great distances, then bring them up into a working position when I reached my location. Does this make any sense?

Sam, I have both the tube and Fly and both can be laid flat as you suggest. I have even laid them flat, tightened them up and put it on the roof rack and traveled with them. The only change I made to them for a tighter adjustment is to replace the flat washers under the tightening knob, with stainless lock washers. In my opinnion there is no better system on the market. Just my .02

Sam,
RAM holders hold do that easily. Are you planning to do this on the aft deck?

Yup... figured laying flat was a better position "if" I roll :)

Yup, imagine it'll make it easier for you to roll up again, too. ;) I pull a piece of the deck bungee over it so it's nice and secure.
