Anyone hear ever try to stand and fly fish out of a kayak, or anyone ever try those side stabalizers? I was thinking about making one or two, I'm not going to pay a coupld hundred $ for them, like they are being sold for online! Any thought's pn the matter would be cool.

I have tried it in my Ride Angler. I did not feel comfortable with it (especially while casting a fly rod). I know people do it though... :) See next post.......

Here is a nice pic from

Kind of looks like Great Island at the mouth of the CT river... :)
I don't even consider it, have never fished conditions when I wished I had outriggers. I don't know of places to sight fish that I couldn't wade. There's really no place for you to stand comfortably in a Tarpon. I am happy to still be sitting in it sometimes, especially landing big blues in wind and chop. You have a great flats yak, just get out and clip a line to belt.

Actually, I beach the fu$%Er and walk the grass (places I could never get to without the yak)....
AT night???? Effing awesome (slurp.. slurp.. pop ..pop)! But must watch out for the holes in the grass.. Could break a leg if not extremely careful! But chances at a 40lbr are to far great to pass it up! Bring the bug spray too!

I know some people down here in Florida who stand or sit higher in their kayaks. I'm not one of them (at least until I drop some more pounds).
Here's a link to a description of one of the guys who made a poling platform for his WS Ride:

The other guy (Jay from the keys if you've read those threads) just takes a cheap boat cushion and sits on the back of his seat.

I can stand and fish from my Drifter. Buy only on calm waters.

Thank's for the info. Has anyone ever tried those side pontoon things? I was only thinking about standing in a kayak because of the better angle that you have of sutting down the sun glare and spotting fish on the flats and other shallow places.
Thank's again,

Stand? No thank you. The only time I've dumped is when I tried to sit on top of my kayak seat while sight fishing in Monomoy. I have a wetsuit bottom and waders for when I want to stand.

Mike are you talking about these stabilizers?

I agree with you that standing up on the kayak while fishing a flat you will see a lot more as compared to sitting with all the sun glare.
You might want to ask about stabilizers on this site:
http://www.texaskayakfisherman.com/msgboard.mv
They are very informative and they fish a lot of flats. So most likely some of the kayakers there might be using stabilizers.
I'll ask around down here as well. Serge, the guy who's link i posted earlier, is looking at them.

capemike88,
I've been kicking around the idea of outriggers for a couple years and this may be the season I give them a try. They would be perfect on Monomoy :) Cabelas has a couple to choose from too.

Yup stabalizers were what I was talking about, you could get at least 5 more feet with those, by standing up and such.
You might try some of the kayak boards like www.paddling.net . They have reviews of some up there I think.

Good luck with that....I think you will find Tribalance a little less than excited about selling you the outrigger for anything but their product.
