Now that I have my Pungos, 2 @12', must I buy a rack for my 6' bed pickup or can I just carry them sticking out of the bed ?

Rhody save your money and keep them in the bed.I hauled my Pungo around like that for a year and did the same with my 16 ft Tarpon.Just flag the back of them and your all set.I just spent over $1300 on a Trac Rac and Thule saddles for my truck.I need to carry 3 yaks this year .2 on the rack 1 in the bed.
Not to mention throwing a Pungo in the bed of the truck and slapping a strap on it is the best after a long day on the water.

There's a great Rac Company (NH) I think it is called Trac-Rac.

Burnished Alum. Oval Tubes that slide on racks. Saw my first one on a chilly Jan. Day at the Vineyard Haven Ferry Dock abot 5 years ago. Another at Freeport, ME and now the local hardware store sells them.

Check them out on line. I'm sure they have a web site. They ain't cheap, but they sure are purddy!

I have a 1990 Jeep Grand Wagoneer and just put the Thule high foot - gutter rack on it so's I can carry 3 yaks at a time.
Two J-racks (Hullys) onthe outboard ends and a H2o and Hydro Glide saddles in the middle. That's for the Great Sept. Bonita, Striped Bass, Fat Albert Camp out on the Vineyard.

The Steamboat Authority is gonna twitch when they see us smuggle three Pungo's across this year. Mine and Ray's _-140's with RIBill's ugly blue 12 foot older model hidden in the middle.

LOL, You willenjoy the ride! Pungo, Pungo!

JoeV's right though! The 12 foot Pungo fits in the bed. Best at an angle and strpped to the rear corner. Two might be crowding it though!

RIBill hauls his single Pungo all over RI and MA in the back of his lil P/U.:-%

I bought the trailer hitch rack from www.canoegear.com . It works pretty well. It doesn't lock but it sets up/breaks down quickly. I take it down when I go out on the water (I have a locking cover on the bed of the truck). Down here in Fla. things tend to disappear sometimes so I like having the bed locked up.

I picked up a great rack for my Toyota Tacoma. It's called a Rail n Rack. there is a web site for them - made in Seatle I think. The horizontals lift off and telescope down to a managable length and the verticals hinge down to form a sharp looking bed rail. Takes about 30 seconds to set it up - really!! I looked at the Trac Rack and thought it was way overkill and pretty obnoxious looking. I also expect it makes a lot of wind noise. The Rail n Rack is cheaper too, which appealed to my Swamp Yankee instincts! This rack holds two Pungos easily but I couldn't get two in my truck bed at all.

My dad has a Ford Ranger with a 6 foot bed I think, but he built a rack for our two 16 foot Tarpons, somthing to think about if you want to and have the time.

I looked at the rail n rack system but I couldn't use it since I wanted a tonneau cover as well. looked nice though.

Thanks for all the input.
I think I'll start out with joev's suggestion, it's the "ole yankee in me".
As a real old yankee friend of mine says " Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without"!
I was pretty impressed with the rack n rail birdman, thanks for the link, I will probably end up with it if I need to haul both Pungo's most of the time.
