Strip and skin if you ask me :)
All depends on what you are looking for I guess. One thing I think most everyone has said here is buy the yak that best suits your needs.
sorry i guess i should restate that comment. which brand is best for "you" (meaning everyone) just curious what everyone has to say thats all...sorry my bad should have made it bit clearer. It is mostly that i am just curious what others opinions are on different brands of yaks

There are five to ten major brand of yaks out there. Wilderness Systems , Necky, Dagger, Current Designs to name a few. I would advise to go to a good shop and buy one of the major brands. Check the threads and you'll see what most people buy.

Pungo's for SIT's and Tarpon's or Ride's for SOT's from wilderness System should be checked out. They are Wilderness Systems products and you can check out their specs on the wildernesssystems.com site.
Test ride them at dedalers who have floating ponds or access to lakes or bays before you buy.
I'm a Pungo fan and have just spent a week wringing out my Pungo 140 in FL. It's Suppa!
RI Doesn't Charge Sales Tax on Yaks!:-%

Johnny,
Most of us on this board are all veterans of the "Winter Shack Nasty Wars!" for at least two seasons. We have all stormed the barricades more than once for the honor and glory of your brand of yaks. The archives are full of it! Now we are a more "gentler and kinder" group. We all seem to have come to the same conclusion! It's your money and who are we to tell you how to spend it. Advice by the boatload is offered, but flailing away and trying to win a "salesman of the year" award for our particular choice of floatable plastic, just isn't there any more.
The most agressive you will find on this board is the occasional "PUNGO! PUNGO! And I'm usually the culprit!
"Drop that paddle and back away slowly!"

Perhaps we will see y'all at the Goose Hummock yak fest in Mid May?
Hahahahahahhahaha
you guys crack me up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
just for the record i am not trying to start a fight...just curious thats all...did'nt mean to aggrevate anyone i was just seeing what people's opionions are because you can't pick up a mag or watch a program on tv and see a reliable report on a yak because they are all influenced by one company or another so thats why...no need for anyone to believe i am trying to start a fight....
i am a friendly person i swear i just like to have other prospectives thats all....because two heads are better than one and 100 are better than 99 ....
sorry,

Way to go Valjean!
I paddle a Perception SINK. I am happy with the quality of the boat and have had no problems. They are sticking to what they know and so far manufacture Touring boats and rec boats but I wouldn't be surprised if they try to crack into the Sportsman market.
If I was buying a new boat, I would be shopping around trying all kinds of models. I think they tend to be a little overpriced so unless I was buying a new kevlar touring boat, I am not necessarily brand loyal.
thank you ruge13 that is what i am looking for....

John,
I paddle a Pungo (12' superlight) This is my first yak and I'm happy with it. All the talk on this board re SOT's v. SINK's and the ease of climbing back on a SOT has made me very cautious safety wise in a SINK.
That said, I'm really happy with the Pungo and it's been a huge addition to my fishing mobility as well as going out with my daughters (18&14) who love it. Great fishing platform.
I particuarly like the seat system as I usually spend 4 or 5 uninterupted hours in it - often more. Like the Pungo I'm built for comfort, not speed.
Any one hitting fresh fish in RI yet?

I paddle a Velocity Expedition from Sun Kayaks. It's an all-around boat for me, not just a fishing platform. I use it for fishing, light touring, and easy river paddling. The length (13') makes it very manageable on rivers and keeps the weight down to about 45 lbs. (easy to carry).
The boat is a much tighter fit than a Pungo, but that's my preference. (I'm a former whitewater paddler, and expect to basically 'wear' the boat.) No room in the cockpit for a lot of gear, but I travel very light so that's OK with me. Fore and aft hatches give decent cargo capacity, and a retractable skeg helps keep you on course when things kick up.
My boat is a few years old, and the bulkheads were poorly fitted/secured when I received the boat. I understand that Sun has addressed this issue in newer models.
