I'd like to get some of the forum members' opinions on the best weight rod to fish the open beach in the Fall - Oct. through Dec. on the South shore of Long Island. I don't mean the backside of inlets. This is for upfront on the beach.

I'd go with a 9 foot 10 wt with sinking line. Or maybe a 2 hander. The extra length would help. I'd b get a 10 foot 10 wt. if somebody made one.
This is a me too message. The extra foot is really helpful on the beach. Get a 10 footer. 9 wt. is probably enough.

Go with a 9'6" 10wt rod. You could also go with the Temple Fork 10ft 9wt rod. It cast almost like a 10wt and the price is right.
saltyflyguy yes a 10ft 10wt would be great if only GLOOMIS were to make that rod again.
