I have recently gotten into saltwater fly fishing and i was looking for some good spots to wade for some fish. I am located in brewster new york (just above westchester) and would appreciate any tips you could give me.
Thanks in advance.

brewster would be about a 35 minute train ride from the city.... to the north that is... and ill go wherever there are fish for me to catch
Great trout fishing in Brewster! (I live in Danbury) If you insist on S/W FF, go to the closest saltwater.I have heard Rye beach, near playland is good. Access is tough in westchester/greenwich shoreline, then further east it gets easier if you sneak in areas like town beaches at unimportant pre-dawn hours. Any idea what general area you want to explore? Hudson river shore at Croton Point Park might be good for you, but I think it's over by this time of year. I have always wanted to try the outlet of the Croton River below Croton dam down to the Hudson.

there is great trout fishing in this area... but its something about seeing my backing that has me hooked.... trout fishing is still awesome though... its a totally different sport.... although now it might be hard for me to do either of them... 8 stitches and a handful of butterfly stitches on my left pointer finger.....ooouuuccchhh maybe i can learn to cast right handed (since im a lefty)

In Conn. there is Cove Island. If you want to fish Westchester at night you'll need a kayak. They kick you out of the parks at night fall, but you can park on the street before.
bbruin, let me know when you can cast again, or even spincast, and we can go out.

Bbruin - get yourself a copy of the Connecticut Coastal Access Guide, a map of the whole CT shorline showing public access spots. The map is free. Call 860-424-3034. I wish NY published something similar. Penfield Reef nr. Fairfield is a popular wading spot. A little further for you would be the lower Housatonic river. A number of accessible spots there, all mentioned in the Access Guide.
I live in Westchester too (Larchmont) and flyfish from my kayak as well as wade fishing. Bbruim or ACE, drop me a line if either of you would like to go fishing at some point.

Wiil do, especially when the boat is fixed ( motor broken again!) I also do some wading around Westport, CT. Don't have a kayak.

It's a bit of a hike, but New Jersey has got some great fishing. Favorites of mine were Bug Light and North Beach at Sand Hook and Island Beach State Park (best to have a 4x4, but I didn't mind hiking around to some spots). I lived in Ossining for a few years and just didn't like the area for SWF... too little access and not easy to fish at night. Loving it up here in RI now!
