"5,000 square feet" of cliff went down at Shadmore.

Anyone see it?

Can anyone describe where the cliffs fell?

I saw some descriptions of where this happened on another board, but I am woefully untrained in naming spots out there.

Where's Indians?

Just asking 'cause I am a week or way from moving my boat to Montauk, trying to picture where this happened. Got a bit of a feeling that some structure near shore I like to catch bass in may now have a ton of cliff on it (if so, I hope those stripers got out from under it).

but here's the info I could dredge up quickly (pardon the pun).

From Newsday (http://www.newsday.com/news/local/longisland/ny-libluf243344512jun24,0,3321684.story?coll=ny-linews-headlines)

Second story has a picture...

All I can say is this is peanuts. I just came back from Caracas and saw what the slides did there; 50,000 dead and they are still rebuilding.

Thanks for the link - I got a better feel for current situation and location from the video in the second link.

TedS, how close is this to your place?

Tuna, I have not seen the cliff erosion you described but with all the rain it's certainly possible. The Indians is exactly the spot you love to work (with the dark bottom) in August, where I had that big weakfish last season. The Montauk cliffs are always melting from the underground streams and this year we are overflowing.I had some really good surf flyrod action this past weekend with bass to 15lbs.The fish were very pale, almost white from the sand that's filled in the rocks.
See you in Montauk.

Ted:

This is fun, why call you on the phone when I can just post and wait to see you on the water.

I saw some more pictures overnight and today (another portion of the cliff fell) and now have a good feel for where it happened. Looks like most of the stuff fell on the beach, with just some hitting the water. I know it shows a strange lack of compassion for the house that may fall, but my first interest was impact on fishing. My guess is I will be taking some bass from around there anyway (what I really want is a weakfish like that giant you got last year and released before I could beg you for it).

I'll be moving my boat out to Montauk this or more likely next weekend. Look forward to seeing you out there - and maybe another run of bonito and skipjack like last year.
