Gonna be in Rehobeth Aug 2-9 and am wondering about ffing opportunities for that time frame. Inshore, offshore, surf... I'm not real particular. I'll be bringing a 9/10 wt with a floater, intermediate sink tip, and fast sink tip lines.
Any sugestions would be greatly appreciated. I could also use the names of a couple of local reputable fly shops. It's hard to beat specific local knowledge and patterns. Thanks.

Check out the Saltwater Fly Anglers of Delaware http://leedesigngroup.com/sfaod
There is no fly shop real close to Rehoboth, DE. The closest one is Salisbury Fly Shop, Salisbury, Maryland.
Try the flats around the fishing pier at Cape Henlopen State Park and the Indian River Inlet. Good luck.

Thanks Bill! I appreciate the heads up. What species can I expect to find the first part of August? I am planning to bring some clousers, poppers, divers, and some deceivers. How 'bout some sand eel imitations?
Thanks again and I hope you are fishing often.

Stu,
Expect stripers, blues, and croaker. Also huge cow nosed rays may swim toward Cape May with your whole fly line if you don't break them off! Occassional sand sharks are also a possibility.
We don't have any sand eels that I have seen or heard of. Your other flies sound fine. You can't go wrong with a #2 clouser in chartreuse and white!

Thanks again, Bill. Your hints will be helpful. Should have mentioned that I''ll be wading. Do you think that will be a problem on the flats? Or are they best accessed by boat?

Stu,
no problem wading at the Cape Henlopen State Park fishing pier. Just park at the lot and you can wade for a mile or so to the right and maybe the same distance to the left until you get to the ferry terminal. Unfortunately, the point will be closed in August due to piping plovers (taste like chicken!). You can also park out closer to the point during daylight hours only near the "radar tower."
Wet wading will be the way to go. You will need flats booties or sneakers due to things on the bottom.
Good luck!

I'm not sure if you can, but try back behind the coast guard station I fished there in the 80's for weaks and bass. lots of cuts and sod banks

Bill and Bob, thanks. I'll be in Rehobeth the day after tomorrow and am looking forward to putting some of your advice to the test. I will certainly post upon my return and tell you some lies...er, fish stories.

I'm also trying the Rehobeth area in a week. I stay near Broadkill Beach on Delaware Bay. I have found that wade-fishing in the bay at Broadkill at day break, wading up to your waist, with a incoming tide, you can usually catch several 14-20-inch weaks on an itermediate line and #2 chrt/white clouser fished slow.
I was interested to read the recommendations about the area of the pier at the Cape Henlopen Park, and will try that next week. Good luck all.
