Quick question. When fly fishing for schoolie BFT, what kind of fly line does one want? A full sink, Int., or a floater. Any advice would be great! Also, is Orvis the only company that makes gel spun backing? Is this the same stuff as spider wire?

flyingbass,
I am using a Teeny Saltwater TS550 sinktip,and Cortland 50# Spectron backing.
I am sure others will chime in with what works for them.

Orvis is not the only company that sells gel spun backing. Spiderwire works great, PowerPro works too, although the dye they use is not colorfast. Regarding the flyline, I think it's whatever loads the rod. With the beefy sticks you are throwing sinking lines. I had two hookups last year with a 12 weight throwing a clear intermediate line. I think the guys at First Light Anglers use full sink lines and let the fly sink through a school of feeding fish. I hope last year wasn't a total anomaly.

Check the New England Forum, there's a thread there about a new line that RIO is going to produce on a custom order and they're looking for buyers. 650gr, 59.99 and lots more info in the thread.
