riptide

Ran out of Ryder’s Cove again today to hunt down the big schools of bass that have been in the area. We got a late start due to working all night. Jimmi and I were OTW by 1000. A first hand report from the early morning had a huge school of bass not willing to hit anything in the area. We had good luck the other day on these fish with live eels fishing the edges of the school. We were ready today with a livewell full of the wiggly little guys. When we got there the wind had picked up and sighting the fish on top was tough. The whole fleet was in a small area so it was obvious where the fish WERE. We worked around the fleet but saw nothing. There was some bait on the finder, but nothing worth pursuing. We ran south a few miles to find dead water. WE turned and headed up off Nauset where we had done well the other day. Still nothing. With the wind blowing in on the beach there were huge bait pods just north of the inlet. Birds were picking the bait but nothing fishy had found it yet. There was also a weird reddish mung in the water in that same area. We finally picked up a few 5# blues at the mouth of the inlet. By now the water was getting sloppy and we decided it was time to go home and sleep. Final tally four rat blues. Small tin caught 3 and an eel caught 1. Water was getting rougher as the day went on. Water temp was low 60’s. Overall a lousy day of fishing that might have been better spent sleeping and getting my gear organized. I guess you win some, you loose some.
