This is a sili skin small sand eel which I will experiment with on the Flats at south beach and North Monomoy . I know it's a "sluggo" type Fly but it is done with a clouser eye to settle on the bottom ...under a school of passing stripers... then twitched or stripped to entice a strike from very selective fish... I don't need any more "follows" and refusals... and will not cast to leading fish anymore. Other flys obviously work..but it's all in the presentaion.. just my opinion.
Nice looking Fly. I want to get into siliscreen eventually. But it would make a pretty nice bass fly if you took the eyes off (worm).

Great looking fly. If it was "all in the presentation", I think I would have done a lot better last Sunday. Please keep us updated on how the fly works. Is that a Tiemco hooK?

Definitely update us on your results. Sunday was a killer day for spotting fish, but only landed one of four takes.

The Hook is a #1 Varivas... I have some modified Crazy Charlies to try as well.

Just curious....how do you keep the "sili skin" on the hook?
is it threaded onto the hook & then glued (like a regular sluggo) or layed against the hook shank and wrapped with thread?

It is pretty simple...I cut a piece of sili skin abour 2 or 3 inches long in a long V-shape, or wedge shape... Tie on the eye right up to the hook eye and build up the shank of the fly with several layers of thread.... Peel the backing off the sili skin and hold it down with a bodkin since the stuff is frustratingly sticky. I then mark the inside with olive marking pen for the back...Slip the hook though the back and fold carefully until each side sticks to the other... then just trim a little of the over lap... the key is not to trim to close otherwise you will lose the adhesion...You can see in the picture where the sides meet and self stick... that's it.

Try it in a duel tail pieces, or ones that fork. That would be onteresting and sounds productive.

Forgive me for asking but what is sili-skin?
I don't think we have it in the UK, so are there any links / websites to places that stock it.
Thanks

Here is the link your looking for:

It's not easy to work with this stuff.
Here is another link of what types of flies you can tie using this stuff. There's also a link at the bottom of that page. You can order it from the guy who started the sili skin craze and it's cost is cheaper than the link above:
