I read about a pattern in Saltwater Flifishing journal, called the Shminnow. I believe it was in the Feb 2003 issue, which I don't have (only one for the past years).
Does anyone have the patter, or site where it is pictured?

Thanks, Norm

I've heard of Gartside's Shworm. Never heard of the Shminnow. You may be able to track it down faster if you can remember who tied the pattern.

Norm, et. al- The pattern for the shminnow is as follows:
Marabou tail the length of the hook with some flash, an d crystal chenille wrapped the length of the hook shank. That's it. Hope it helps. Ron

Thanks, guys, much appreciated. it really got great reviews in the journal. 'Course, you almost never hear of a Poor fly.

Rel, that is a lot like the fly I tie for flounder in the fall. I add a little buck tail over the marabou (just enough to keep from fouling)and a set of barbell eyes. I tie this in purple (Chenillewith a little yellow or Chart. in the tail. I use an intermediate line and just fish it slowly along the bottom. Great after the first few fall fronts come through. Also works well on specks under the lights. Tight Loops, AC

Ran acroos this stuff thought it might help. It seems they like to replace the marabou with something more durable.

"here are the tying instructions as listed in the article. this fly is basically a wooly bugger with black mono eyes and no palmered hackle around the body.
1/standard size saltwater hook size 4 to 1/0. norm likes 2
2/wrap a base of white thread on the rear half of the hook shank. tie on white marabou to make plump full tail.
3/attach the end of the pearl-white crystal chenille at the bend of the hook
4/tie in black mono eyes behind the eye of the hook
5/wrap the body with the crystal chinelle working forward. wind the chinelle in an "x" pattern over the mono eyes and tie in behind the eye of the hook
6/ whip finish head
7/clip thew tail to approximately the same length as the hook shank. if the tail is to long the fly loses some of its shrimpy look."

Doesn't look like black mono eyes to me, more like black iris on red lead eyes? Tied this fly up for my month in Florida (Bonita Beach in March) fishing for snook. Didn't get one fish on this pattern. Of course, during other months, this pattern could be the ultimate fly. I just didn't find it to be so. What caught my snook was a white Seducer.
