How has the fishing been post-Claudette? It hit around Matagorda and Port O? I am from Rhode Island and am planning a trip down to fish that area......The trip will be later on, should be no problem then, but I am curious to hear how things are in the landfall region.

I fished in the lower laguna madre just last week and caught three redfish, two keepers, in about three hours of fishing. Others on the trip did similarly. Madagorda is considerably farther north, but fishing I have heard had been good there as well.

Water is looking good on Matagorda/Poc. Fish are biting, wind not too bad.
Haven't fished down there since hurricane but will be on Aug. 18-21.
Will keep you posted.
If I can be of any help, let me know. I know the ropes quite well in that area and may even share a secret or two with you.

Hey thanks! I will check with you as my trip gets closer. Looks like Sept. or Oct. at this point.

Sept./Oct. = best fishin' of the year. Not blazing hot, water is still wade-able without waders, fish are hungry, and most of the goobers are off the water in their dove hunting mode.
Headed down there Aug. 18-21, will give you a report.
If you need a guide, place to stay, etc., I can make recommendations. If our schedules allow, perhaps we could hook-up and do a day of fishin' in my scooter. (A scooter is a funny looking craft with an outboard motor, capable of sustaining a lateral motion in sand that is barely covered with water, not to be mistaken, however, with those noisy air boats. Great for flats fishin' and getting away from noisy, obnoxious goobers in their 200hp dreadnaughts) Would be an excellent excuse to ditch my wife for a coupla days.
