View Full Version : Broke My 6 Weight
Darnit I broke my only fly rod. i was casting at a bass lake behind the house and I hit a root I guess with my wooly bugger and snap. It broke about 2 inches about the spot where the rod is but together. Any Reccomendations on how I can fix this? This zap-a-gap stuff im using for fly tying is pretty strong would that and some duck tape do the trick? Anyone want to trade rods ( I want a TFO 9 weight ;) )?

Duct tape works wonders for the folks who follow Red Green, the Canadian TV program on PBS. I am afraid to say for you the answer will be a new rod, hopefully one with a warranty. TFO rods are reasonably priced so consider picking up a #6 and #9.

I'd contact the company who makes your rod. Some companies may do anything from replace the rod for free to charging a nominal fee. It can hurt to ask and maybe cheaper than buying a new rod, unless you're looking for a new rod.

Ditto that! Certainly can't hurt. Even the manufacturers that don't advertise warranties sometimes fix/replace broken gear.

If the Ferrule Broke, you can re-inforce by wrapping with thread and casting with epoxy or supergluw type products.
A flat floss works ok. Dental floss works ok. Anystrong thread will work. Run the line through a phone book and wrap neatly. Finish by tucking thread under wraps via the "thread trick" (Rap over a loop of fine thread - run tag end of wrap through the loop and tug under) Coat with adhesive of your choice.
Better than no rod.
You won't be able to repair the rod yourself. All the glue and wrappings won't hold it.
Call the manufacturer and they will have a few options for you.
