Fished the new moon on Monday from midnight till 3:00am in Huntington Harbor. Anywhere light was shining on the water held mega pods of 1" worms. In amongst them were huge schools of both small spearing and what looked to be small bunker. These bunker, (if they were bunker0 were smaller than peanuts...these may have been small chovies, I havn't had the time to look them up. The downside to all this was the lack of stripers in the area. We heard some loud slurps but they just were not as present as we expected. Perhaps the water was too warm. What we did catch were cocktail blues to about 1.5lbs. Not what I expeted nor stayed up late for. We did pick up one bass at 24" on a black clouser. A present NE wind made it tough to work the north end of the harbor. ...wind against tide....

Love to see all that fry in the water. I think the fall is going to be one of the best in years. Good luck to all.

From the reports I've seen, it appears that there are now many schools of large bunker in the North Shore Harbors -- Manhasset, Oyster Bay, CSH -- and plentiful large blues (10-20 lbs.) staging daily blitzes.

Have started catching smaller blues in the back bays to 4lbs on clousers and gurglers. Once the real peanut bunkers come in, the gator blues will start taking crease flies etc. I hear the same reports as you and can testify to the slaughter going on most days in CSH. Here in Huntington, I havn't seen a decent pod of the bigger bunker just yet, but wouldn't be surprised if they were around.
