Since each time I was at my boat, I saw Tuna's at the dock, I will assume that he didn't get out over the weekend, so I'll start this thread.

Fished Saturday morning on the south side and caught a few small bass and a blue. No signs at all of tunoid species. Got out around 7 or 7:30. Upon rounding the Point, saw birds at the west end of Turtle Cove/Browns and hooked up with a blue on the first cast. It was somewhat bigger -- 5 to 6 lbs. -- then the small cocktails that have been around most of the summer. Left the blues to go bass fishing thinking I could always find the blues again later. However, I never did see them again.

Worked Caswells for a few bass in the 20-24" range. The water was clear, but the south swell was beginning to build a little, the fog was rolling in and the drift wasn't great. I got out of there when the fog became pea soup.

I found it notable that two of the well known Montauk charter boats were doing there wire line trolling just off of Caswells, pretty close to shore.

Got out Sunday afternoon, for really just a boat ride with a friend. Some casts around Caswells turned up nothing.

I marked water temps of low 60s. Is that really the temp. or is my thermometer a little off????

FMW,

I tried plugging off the rocks at Camp Hero. At 8:00 AM fish were busting really small bait inside the rocks. I picked up a couple that were the same size as yours. The funny thing was the bait looked liked bay anchovies. Isn't it early for them?

Other people can weigh in on when bay anchovies show, but it does seem to me a bit early. They could just as well be spearing. I noticed plenty of spearing around my marina this weekend with small snappers on their tail.

Small, very small anchovies have been the diet of many of the small bluefsih feeds for three weeks now. Blues just sipping them on the surface
