Hello, all. Before discovering this board, I bought a Rio Lumalux Intermediate Striper Line for my eight weight. Long story short, it does not cast very well. Not slick at all and casts seem to collapse no further than thirty feet or so past the rod tip- regardless of whether the line is wet or dry. Having enjoyed their freshwater products tremendously, I thought it would be a good line but I was disappointed. Can anyone recommend an alternative. I saw an older post where someone lays heaps of praise on the Airflo Cold Saltwater intermediate. Is that pretty much the consensus in these parts or should I look elsewhere? I've wanted to check out an Airflo for a while, but I wanted to double check to make sure that wasn't just a solitary opinion. Thanks a lot.

I purchased Orvis Wonderline Advantage Clear WF9i. Expensive but great line. Have used it a few times so far with no issues. Casts smooth and line shoots effortlessly. Didn't really want to spend 70 bucks on fly line, but now that it's said and done, I'm very happy I did.

I had the exact problem with my Rio line. I hate to blame a product, but this line was no help for my casting. I have since switched to a Wulff intermediate and I love it. My friend was in from CO this weekend and was amazed at how well this line would shoot. Very slick, cuts wind, great line. This is a great product. It just doesn't have the market penetration of some of the other lines.

I had a similar problem with my clear Airflo 7 wt line. I have a clear or "camo" int. 8 wt Cortland 555 line that I am very happy with.

Does anyone know how the Cortland 555 "Little Tunney" Int. performs in freshwater conditions???

If you are fishing a clear Int. in the northeast salt....I wouldn't use anything but the airflo......just my opinion

I have the Cortland 555 in 9 & 10 camo intermediate and have fished it in salt in New England and the Keys and fresh in NE. No problems. I also used a Wulff 12 wt clear Int. in the Keys for Tarpon, it was the guide's gear, and it was an awesome line. Cast it all day and it never had a problem with it.

Peter,

I was very disapointed at how much my Airflo clear intermediate 7 wt line tangled. I also noticed it wasn't from curls in the line, but from sticking to itself in my striping basket.

I noticed the 555 line doesn't exhibit the same problems.

Hey Ray,
That surprises me, I fish the airflo cold water clear Int. line on my 8,9 & 10wt rods, over lining each by 1 wt. and have not had this problem, even on cold nasty windy days in late Oct. albie fishing, running and gunning all day. I have had terrible tangles and wind knots in a SA striper Int. line that I bought this spring and have since taken it off. I fished the cortland 555 little tunny line last fall some and did not like it as much as the airflo.......different strokes
