from a fellow that I couldn't believe.
The phone rang about 2:30 am. The fellow on the other end said he represented the phone company. He alerted me to the fact that the electric co. had been doing some work on the poles and that he needed to check my lines to be sure they hadn't done any damage. He first asked when we would be at work and since they couldn't give me a specific time when they would be there, we needed to leave a key out for them to check our jacks from inside. When I asked him why he needed to check them from inside, or for that matter at all since all the lines in the area are buried, not on poles, he got very offensive and told me I didn't know what I was talking about. I then asked his name and his supervisor's name, he called me a few dirty names and hung up. I then called the local PD and they informed me that there have been a lot of calls similar to that plus a call collect call / forwarding scam going on in our area. The real shock came when they informed me that the majority of the calls were coming from the pay phones in the county jail! Heck of a deal.
I guess the bad thing is that there may actually be people that will fall for this.
