I will be staying in North Topsail Beach, NC in October. I have never been to the area and am interested in any particulars on wading/beach fly rodding in the area. I will be bringing an eight weight and ten weight with Int line. What flys/sizes/colors do you suggest tying up for the area ?
I will also be bringing a couple of spinning bait and lure outfits. Looking for advice for that as well.
Thanks

The inlet is your best bet. If you're really lucky there might be an albie or two around. You might want to consider driving an hour north one day and take the ferry from the beaufort waterfront to Shackleford banks. Most consistent albie spot there is. Beaufort is a nice place for the family to walk the historic district, eat, shop. I would fish small surf candies on the intermediate and small pencil poppers on a floating line.

Flyfished the topsail surfe during a warm summer day many years ago. Had been swimming and beaching and found a beach full of potholes about a foot deep so fished them with a small clouser or bead head fly and caught small fluke or flounder.
I just waided out and cast parallel to the shore so had a tight line on the bottom most of the time.
