I'm headed to the Outer Banks next week for vacay, staying in Frisco.
I'm looking for some local info, on fly fishing shore....flies,
what people have been catching...
Or some local shops I could call....local guides.....
anything.
Thanks.

I get down to OBX a few weeks a year, but have not been in Sept. I have fished with a couple different inshore guides around both Hatteras Inlet (south HI) and Oregon Inlet (north HI). Doug Martin lives in Frisco and fishes out of Hatteras Inlet (usually). He is excellent--my wife and I fish with him a couple times a year. In June we usually catch trout (weakfish & specks) or flounder. In Sept. I would think you could run into trout, flounder, small blues, maybe spanish or even puppy drum. Doug does not specialize in fly fishing and we usually spin fish but he is familiar with fly gear and I'm sure could help you out. Definitely worth a call--(252)995 5643. Half day trips run around $200--a bargain. Last November Doug and a friend and I got into 34-40" stripers on surface plugs--what a gas.
The other guide worth a call is Sarah Gardner (252) 449 0562--evenings. She does specialize in fly fishing and fishes out of Oregon Inlet on Bodie Island--you'll go right by Oregon Inlet Fishing Center on your way down Rt 12. We fished with her in June too and caught a bunch of schoolie stripers. Check out this year's Sage catalog--she's profiled in it. Her husband Brian Horsley also guides/flyfishes out of Oregon Inlet and has a great reputation. He is also great about answering email--check them out at outerbanksflyfishing.com. Good luck.
