I will be traveling to the Seattle area quite often over the next two years, and I have heard that the fishing in the area is very good. What are the opportunities on a fly?

Fishing in seattle area is very good. You can target any number of different fish on any given day! The locals are very friendly and helpfull. Plenty of sea run cut's but no stealhead yet.

You ever fish the steelhead runs in the Trinity River area in Northern California?

I live north of Seattle and the fishing here is rather good and varied. In hte early spring trout in lakes is real good. But the reel thrill for most of us fly flingers is the steelhead and salmon that come through. Come June and July the steelhead in the rivers are good specifically in the Skykomish. The sky is about 1 hour north and east. The rivers are large but there are many places to fish that a fly works well for. A stop at Kaufman's on fourth street in downtown should be a pre-requisite. They can set you up with hot flies and some general go to info.
As summer moves to falll a trip to the Yakima would be worth your time. It is a beautifull river and has a great poipulation of nice sized trout. The colors are great and the water levels are dropped after ther summer agricultural flows.
The late fall sees runs of salmon. Starting with pinks,September on odd years, and then going to silvers,October and chums,November. After that it is winter run steelhead on many rivers in the area.
As you can see there is a lot to do in our area. There is of course more but this would keep you going for quite a while. A good book to get is A Fly Fisherman's Guide To Washington. But aftert reading this you may just want to move here!
