Ran out of Sandwich at 0830 after getting a call from LeClaire. He was in Plymouth and said it was way to sloppy to head out. He said others already out off the Race were in 8’ seas. Of course I had to see for myself. NOAA is never wrong and they said 1-2’s. As we broke the east end of the canal the 4-5’s began to show up. I said “just the canal dumping into the wind.” As we got out away from the canal the 4’s were consistent with every 10th wave around 6’. After getting beat up and wet for a while we decided to head home and pray for calmer days. On the way home we stopped at several boat dealers to drool over some stuff that could handle the slop. No casts, no hits no nothing!

'bout the same as today. If they are right (for a change) it will be a super day to try. If they are batting their usual 25% correct, it will be rough and miserable like today. All we can do is wait and see.

If I were closer I'd buy that Grady that Joe L. has for sale! Looks like a boat that could handle that slop.
Oh well....the Adirondacks will have to do for a few more years.......till retirement or a winning lottery ticket!

What's with the big seas? I thought Adrian was far gone. Is it just swell kicked up by wind against the tide???

I think it's just the NE wind has been on for a few days straight without a let-up at night. Same thing was in BBay last month. The wind was around 10 SW, but it never let up at night. BBay got up to 4-5's where we were and there was no real wind to speak of. The waves just build a little at a time, and jjsut keep building and building. Last month we left and went to CCbay and it was FAC just the canals width away it was 5'ers. These today were not swells, it was a very steep, sloppy chop, with a fair amount of white on top. My boat was just a bit short of bridgiing them at 15-20mph, but they were too messy to try to speed up and get on top. We would go 45 degrees up and then fall off the backside. No amount of trim or tab would smooth it out. The only solution I saw was a lot longer boat to span the crests. Also they were so steep that at slower speeds I lost the effect of the tabs so the pounding was the same. Just ugly water to be in.:(

Today proved the old saying "discretion is the better part of valor" or some such stuff.
When the question arose. Is it just really $hitty out or are we just stupid? I replied, "Probably a good bit of both".
Was nice to hit 57mph for 20 seconds in the canal. Blew the salt out of the eyes and blow dried the hair for work.:D

Hey Terry,
after the turn about face this morning we headed down to Padanaram and launched the cat in waters protected from the north wind. I found millions of bluefish right away in Buzzards Bay and caught them until lunch. We headed out looking for Bonito and found loads of skipjack and albies just outside of the bay. After we had hooked a few skippies we hooked into a small bluefin around 15-17 lbs. in the mix. We lost it at boatside as the hook straightened out. Then after a few more casts into skippies we hooked into the mother of all albies. We got him boatside and this monster was almost 20 lbs. What a fish it took three runs over 150 yards. These fish are moving through with the skippies and they are awesome fighters....
