More newbie questions:

What type of line should I get for my spare spool, that would work well for reteiving woollybuggers and the like submerged?

I have only been casting on freshwater and only on the top with floating line. It's fun.

Should I go with intermediate or sinking? Could someone explain the difference? Sinking just sink faster?

I'm looking to get flies like woolly's from the surface to 5 feet down for fw bass.
Thx
-G

ps
I wound up getting a Tioga 6wt reel, and a Temple fork IM6 5wt rod.

I recomend an intermediate line, I use the next number on the line to match the rod number. Ex #6 rod # 7 line, helps loading the rod a lot better.
Intermediate lines are just very slow sinking lines 1-2.5 inches per second. They will help to keep the fly in the strike zone for a longer time till you retrieve the line, it also works just below the surface so it wont be draged by any waves created by winds, and it wont spook fish by making ripples on the water when it is mirror calm.
If you want to fish nymphs a sinking or sinking tip will help a lot, also on very hot days though fish wont strike that much while they try to lower their temperatures.
I'll go for the intermediate no doubt.

Thank you Armando.
That makes sense.

In addition to the informative reply from Armando, sinking lines are rated by flyline weight and sink rate. A WF #6 type I will not sink as fast as a WF #6 type II. I think the sink types go all the way to type VII. I own a type VII. It sinks like a rock. There are also sink tip lines, where the body of the line floats and the tip sinks. I think the length of the sinking tip section varies from three to twenty feet.

I would vote for an intermediate as well. You would just need a tad more patience to let it keep sinking. Also, at a certain point/sink rate, the sinking lines become to heavy for your rod to throw. If in doubt ask the trusty fly shop you use.
