On the top set of pictures hrere are some nice big epoxy heads. How did you get those nice shapes??? Multiple coats or thread build up???

i use 3-d prism eyes and epoxy them on the sides and wait for them to dry and then do a second coat above the eyes and below the eyes and a small amount on the side of the eyes and rotate while in the vise. and with those steps you should get a round bulky epoxy head. but just incase u dont get the picture ill put up some pictures of the steps of a anchovy/silverside pattern.

Hey cool flies, but I just can't believe how organized you are, my fly tying desk looks so messy you can't tell where the vise is.
Dont you use any motor to help you in the drying of the epoxy heads?

no i do not use a motor or a drying wheel all the forming of the epoxy is done in the vise.

apply last coat of epoxy above eyes and below eyes and maybe just a tad on the sides and start to rotate flyin vise. if fly becomes out of shape use bodkin to drag epoxy or if epoxy has started to cure wet finger with water or spit and keep rotating fly and apply finger to fly and shape head. heep fingers wet!!!! if you follow these instructions you should come out with a fly head lookin like this.

REAL good work, Amando. I've been wanting to graduate to using more epoxy in my creations but have not a clue as to how how to re-define the inevitalble mis-shapen configurations without myself becoming a permenent part of the fly. Believe me, I've done some great tying, but leave much to be desired in the final coats of the epoxy.
Wet fingers!! Brilliant!!
What type of epoxy do you use?
You do good work. Hope I can ask you a question or 2 in the future.
Have you yet perfected your Mullet catching fly?

good info epoxy. Just a little tip, if you resize your photos(keep them below 600 pixls) it will be easier to load/see. Keep up the good tieing.

a lot of epoxy tiers don't like to use a motorized fly drying wheel. why not?
i tie a lot of fresh and salt water streamers and epoxy all of the heads. i find that if i use small amounts of devcon 5 and get the heads formed correctly by manual turning, then i can set it on the wheel and keep going.
i can usually get three flies out of one batch before it begins to harden. it is a lot better (faster) for a procrastinator like me who usually ties 3 dozen flies in the two or three nights before a trip that was planned six months in advance...

Nice work on the fly.
I recently started doing more epoxy work cuz I realized how much strength it adds to the fly.
