Fished Winthrop area with G-Man last night for a few hours. We hit the usual spots with mixed results. Totals for the trip were 4 bass (no keepers) and one blue. Bunch of baitfish hugging the beach but with no fishing eating them. All fish were caught on soft plastics. Wanted to fish with eels or tube n worm but bait stores were either closed or out of both. Maybe the fly fishing gods were telling us something. Nothing exciting to report expect that G-Man was in stealth mode last night and I nearly hit him with a few ounces of lead. With luck I'll post a picture later of him catching a bluefish.

Try those Berkeley Power Sandworms. Tube and Worm guys swear they work. I've also heard they work great on a small jig head. Also if you want bait at a later hour try P& J's on Dorchester Ave in Fields Corner. Extortionist prices but it's the shop of last resort. Also I'm not sure if they are working and you should call to confirm that before hand but Fore River B&T in Quincy and Tropicland in Dedham have bait vending machines. But I probably shouldn't be encouraging such heathenly practices on this site.

I launched out of Winthrop Public yesterday @ 4 and fished till 9 pm. I trolled all the way out to the Fauns. I didn't catch any big Stripes but there where a tons of blues. They started blitzing @ the Little Fauns and where airborne chasing bait fish. The ones I caught where between 5-10lbs. The fishfinder showed larger but couldn't get by the ones on top. Did you launch out of 5 sisters? I was going too but there was a report of 2 50 lb stripers taken @ the Fauns and one Sea Trout.

I don't know where Field's Corner is located. Is that in Winthrop?

Hey Ninja,
How did your tubapalooza go?

Been wanting to join you, but that was my first time fishing the salt in about 8 weeks. Just busy family life. Got the bug again now tho.

Notime and I should join you for guided tour of Winthrop, eh?
My plans to visit Dad on Sunday got changed. Going out again next Sunday night?

Shaun, Sea Trout have been known to be caught in the harbor and Deer Island from time to time. I heard it from a boater in Bobs Bait shack, that one had been caught fishing for fluke.
I remember a fellow snag one 3 years ago @ the Charles River Dam snagging Herring. That one I saw and a picture is at Fishing Finatics in Everett.

G-man poluza was good. 5 guys showed up and we had a blast. The monsters were not around but small where. Largest being a 37" rest around 30 and lots of schoolies.

I have not been paying too much to Winthrop this week, maybe Friday. I know lots of blues are here but I only got into smaller ones Monday.

About 8 of us are getting together Sunday early morning. We want to do pebble beach in rockport but it depends on the conditions. Alternatives are being planned. If anyone is interested post here or email me, for the final plan by Saturday.

Thanks, that would be interesting. I heard a story last year about a guy that landed a Salmon off Deer island from shore many years ago. Also saw an old black and white photo from one of my neightbors who has lived here forever. In that photo was a record Great white that was caught between Brewster island and the Graves. I forget what he said the weight was but by the picture it had more than its share of seals...

Sea trout in NY is another name for Weakfish! Sea Run Brown or Rainbow Trout are another category entirely! Which is it on this thread?
