Can anyone point me to tying instructions for the "Hi-Tie?"
I seen this fly referenced in Lefty Krey's 'Saltwater Fly Patterns'
but cannot find detailed any detailed instructions.
Any info you can provide would be appreciated.
thanks,

You place a fairly small amount of material on one side of the hook shank, (usually the top or bottom) and wrap it on. After the material is wrapped, pull the material away from the hook shank so that the material is not on the same plane as the hook shank, but at an angle. For a clump of material wrapped on top of the hook shank you would pull it up away from the barb. You are looking to create an angle of 30 - 45 degrees. Next make wraps at the base of the material. These wrap will be around the material only, not the hook. These wraps are to preserve the angle. Finish up with a few wraps around the material and hook shank to lock everything down. Repeat the process as you work your way to the eye of the hook. The result is a fly with a really big profile. What pattern are you looking to tie?

Quick is correct. Also it depends on the material you use... for example if you are using Polar fiber you don't need to wrap the only around the material but just to the shank.. with Bucktail the material wrap is best since the bucktail can spllay to much, unless you want it to.
