When I was describing the process I was thinking a Grocery Fly! With that fly I think you will only need three hi-tie's on top, and two or three on the bottom. I understand the pattern is popular up north. I have not had fun with the ones I tied. The pattern uses a lot of material, and is brutal to cast. The fly is a feather mop. There is a lot of opportunity for air to get trapped within the materials so often when my Grocery flies hit the water they tend to float for a bit. IMHO synthetics are the way to go for big profile flies. One false cast and the fly is bone dry and very castable. Check out Joe Branham's website. It is an incredible resource, and we are very fortunate that he checks in on us from time to time.
