When I was describing the process I was thinking a Grocery Fly! With that fly I think you will only need three hi-tie's on top, and two or three on the bottom. I understand the pattern is popular up north. I have not had fun with the ones I tied. The pattern uses a lot of material, and is brutal to cast. The fly is a feather mop. There is a lot of opportunity for air to get trapped within the materials so often when my Grocery flies hit the water they tend to float for a bit. IMHO synthetics are the way to go for big profile flies. One false cast and the fly is bone dry and very castable. Check out Joe Branham's website.
