spotting bass

Had a fun bass spotting Sat evening at Accobonac. Found myself standing in water, black with small bunker all around. There was remarkably little predator action, only a rare splash here or there.

While wading along I noticed the black bait part in front of me, in the middle a nice sized bass approaching, about 10 ft away he noticed me a swirled away. I had never spotted a fish before by the "parting of the bait" it induced- very cool to see. Of course I was too mesmerized to get a cast off.
Tally of the day: a few false hooked bunker and cold feet. Nice day though, hazy sunset.

I keep looking for bass by sight .I've tried all the shoals on the northfork. "Must be at the wrong place at the right time"

I used to have a hard time. I splurged this spring and went out for a day with my brother- in- law to Monomoy. I am still not good at spotting bass, but it has become easier since then.
A slight elevation, sandy bottom, and polarized glasses all help.
The flats boat guys get the best shots at spotting fish.
