I am getting more into the kayak thing, and interested in personal safety. Can anyone recommend a GPS unit, suited for kayak use (ie small reliable, easy to use with cold hands, and water proof...)
Kind thanks,
Andreas.

I've been using the Garmin MAP76 for a few years now and love it. Waterproof and floats. Try doing a search in this forum for more info :)

I use a Garmin GPS 12. Cost and the fact that it was waterproof was in my decision making. Not a fancy unit(no maps) but it does the job. Add enough waypoints and it's just like having a map. Great basic handheld.

Garmin GPS 12. Very simple to operate. Work well even when enveloped in a waterproof bag..... or even in a beer cooler! The units with the maps are of no advantage because the range is so small in your Yak and the maps are totally lacking in detail.
Simple, waterproof, floats and under $100 on E-bay.
