Original plan was to meet Greg Sunday evening for some striper fishing along the coast of Winthrop. Greg suggested the weather would be much better on Saturday and we changed plans. Good idea. I hit the surf at 5:00 PM and was greeted by a huge fall blitz. Right time, right place. Only one boat fishing the blitz. They were fishing one blitz so I decided to paddle to the other blitz. Paddled out to the fish and hooked up for the next two hours on the fly until sunset. The fish were an even mix of blues and bass, with the bass being in the middle twenties to small keepers. Blues were smaller, probably 5-8 pounds. Greg was a little slow out of the house and arrived just in time to see me land a 29" bass as the blitz ended. My guess is he'll be early next trip. The fish were chasing small peanuts, about 2" long. However, they hit my olive clouser without hesitation. After hunting for a few minutes hoping they would pop back up, we rigged for night time fishing. Greg set up the tube n worm, me a 5" pearl storm. We then paddled around for the next three hours landing a few bass. Not great numbers, but Greg got two keepers, one breaking thirty inches and I got a nice 37" bass off the bottom. In the shallow water, we had a few misses off of topwater lures. Greg fished for the first time ever with a saltwater fly rod for a little while, but no luck. If you listen carefully, you can hear Greg kicking himself for missing the opportunity to try out his new fly rod on keeper sized bass blitzing. It's probably better this way. Don't want to spoil a newbie. Pictures to follow.

Picture near the end of the blitz. It's at sunset, but I lightened the picture to make it easier to view.

Greg's first bass of the night (30+"). Not a bad start.
