I still have a little fishing left in my system.
Gonna take Tuesday off to go fishing.

I was going to join my Dad on his boat, but he is not feeling well, and has a trip later in the week.

Anyways, Tuesday looks like a humdinger day with rare west winds. I'm planning on heading for Winthrop after I drop off the kids, which gets me there @ 10:30am after the worst of rush hour. Figure I'll drive along the coast looking for bird activity. Main goal being a fish on a flyrod.

This is a rare chance for me, so I may stay at the coast for the day and fish Winthrop during the sunset until the bottom of the tide @8:30pm.

See if I can get this fishing thing out of my system. :D

Anyone else interested in fishing Tuesday during day or after work in Winthrop Deer Island area?

Sounds good.
Yes, I'll be in a blue kayak.
I'll be starting from the parking lot at Dear Island entrance.
See you there.

What a day Tuesday turned out to be!
Weather was beautiful....and fishing was super around Deer Island. I was happy Garth decided to join me as well. He's a great guy.

I started fishing an hour before Garth arrived and managed a striper and couple blues. Big blue was my first fish on a flyrod!

Garth launched and we made our way to the Faun, but no current yet. We went a little further and saw Deer Island rip full of action, birds everywhere. We cruised into the rip and the bluefish were bustin all around the boat. Quickly hook up with blues on the fly. It's work because the rip throws you 200yds back before you land the fish. The waves were 13 ft high...oh wait that's another story. :)

I would muscle back up to the front of the rip, and with in a couple minutes it's fish on! Located on decent bass in the rip as well. The action was still hot as we left the rip at sunset.
It was awesome! ... and tiring.

As darkness set in we moved to the Faun rip. It's mellow in comparison to the current at Deer Island rip. Trolling black flies in 4ft of water we landed many bass. Seriously, the Faun is loaded with 26-28 inch stripers after dark. We quit around 8:30, but we could have caught fish there all night long.

Garth talked with a guys casting from shore, and they had only 1 hookup in the time we had landed over a dozen nice bass.
We were reminded how great it is to fish from a kayak.

It was the kinda day I was dreaming of having! I'm hooked on flyfishing, too. First bass and blue on a flyrod..woohoo!
Thanks Garth!

Below is Greg with one of the nighttime stripers. It was a great night. I'm glad Greg "dragged" me out. I orginally wasn't planning on taking the day off, but around noon I couldn't take it anymore, closed up shop and hit the beach by 3:30. When I pulled into the Deer Island lot they were busting like crazy in the harbor. This was no doubt some of the same fish we caught later in DI rip. I was about 100 yards from the fish and yet launched on the ocean side to meet up with Greg. Not easy to walk away from breaking fish. However, I told myself they were just coctail blues and we'd be into bigger and better fish.

Fishing against the wind and DI rip tide was definitely a lot of work. You'd change your fly or battle a fish and look up and you were way out of the action again. I was a bit stiff this morning.

Turns out the guys on the shore were other reel-timers (see "Deer Island Blitz" in NE section).
